Check your contract
Want a second pair of eyes? Upload your contract for a free review.
Because what a storage company can do mostly depends on your rental agreement (see Your Rights), the contract is the most important document you have. Find it, then check:
- ☐ What is the monthly rent, and is every fee you were charged actually listed?
- ☐ What does it say about late fees, how much, and when they start?
- ☐ Is there a lock-cut, overlock or "lien processing" fee, and how much?
- ☐ What notice must they give before denying access or selling contents, and how (email, mail, text)?
- ☐ Did they send that notice to your current contact details?
- ☐ What does it say about moving out, and did you give notice that way?
- ☐ Do insurance or "protection plan" charges match what you agreed to?
- ☐ Was the advertised price the same as your first bill?
